IRAS Application System

The online Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) is the single system for applying for the necessary approvals across a range of review bodies, for health and social care research in the United Kingdom. These bodies include:

  • NHS Trust Research Departments
  • Research Ethics Committees
  • Social Care Research Ethics Committee
  • Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
  • National Information Governance Board (NIGB)
  • National Offender Management Service (NOMS)
  • Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee (ARSAC)

In order to streamline the process for obtaining national approvals, the IRAS system enables research personnel to enter the information relevant to the study once, with this information then populating the necessary projects forms to ensure that there is no duplication of information entry.

The Doncaster Clinical Research team provide comprehensive support to all research personnel in relation to all aspects of IRAS. This support extends across both single centre and multi-centre applications.

In order to ensure that applications progress for NHS Trust permission as swiftly as possible, the Doncaster Clinical Research team facilitate the completion of Site Specific Information forms (SSI) forms, and where appropriate through IRAS, support the submission of national and local applications to the NIHR Co-ordinated System for gaining NHS permission (CSP).

Further advice on submission through NIHR CSP can be found at the following link:
